Virtual Recruitment: The Future of Staffing

Every industry, department and individual has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It has forced us to not only change the way in which we interact with one another from a 6 foot distance but to also incorporate more technology into our daily lives. LinkedIn Talent Solution’s Search and Staffing Report discusses how COVID-19 is specifically transforming the staffing industry and the crucial role recruiters play in helping both candidates and clients adjust to the changes that are here to stay.

Customers and Companies will Build and Borrow More

LinkedIn Talent Solution reports that there has been a 20% increase in internal mobility and 2 out of 3 companies expect their L&D (Learning and Development) budget to increase or stay the same. Companies are predicted to move toward hiring candidates who are adaptable to the current volatile times and are able to work in cross functional teams to meet new goals. This will also shift the recruiting landscape as recruiters focus on an applicant’s potential rather than just their technical skills. Rajesh Ahuja, Global Head of Talent Acquisition at Infosys states, “The future of talent acquisition lies in reskilling, rather than finding someone better in the market.” This mindset will also open job opportunities for recent college graduates who don’t quite have all of the experience but have limitless potential.

Virtual Recruiting is Here to Stay

An increasingly large number of hiring managers agree that virtual recruiting will continue even after the COVID-19 pandemic. After having no choice but to switch to video interviews; candidates, employees and recruiters alike have seen how both time and resources have been saved all the while making successful hires. The nature of some industries does not allow them to be completely virtual but implementing even just a few more virtual components into the interviewing/on boarding process could provide many of the same benefits. Many companies have found that implementing a partial or fully virtual recruitment model has allowed them to avoid project delays because they have the ability to continue hiring even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moving forward, virtual recruiting will be here to stay.

Recruiters will Lead the Transition to Remote Work through Workforce Planning

68% of search and staffing professionals agree that advising the business/client on workplace planning is becoming an increasingly important skill for a recruiter. Workplace planning is defined as “a continuous optimization process organizations use to align their goals and needs with the goals and needs of their workforce.” This involves setting your organization’s goals and aligning/developing your workforce to meet them by taking into account your company’s size, employee’s skills and cost for meeting these initiatives.  A recruiter can assist with workforce planning because they spend time getting to know both the client and candidate. This provides them with a unique insight that will assist their client in developing and initiating a workforce plan that will likely involve remote recruiting/work due to current circumstances. A recruiter’s insight will play a crucial role in meeting client initiatives and leading the transition to remote work.

Recruiting will Build New Skills to Align to the Business

While some recruiters experienced hiring slowdowns many specifically in the healthcare industry experienced spikes. Regardless, all recruiters had to adapt to the current times. This meant understanding their client’s new needs, helping jobless candidates find employment and coordinating entirely virtual recruitment processes. 53% of professionals say adaptability will be the most important skill for recruiters moving forward. As we move toward an entirely virtual recruitment process, it is necessary clients communicate their needs openly with both recruiters and candidates. We will continue to adapt, learn and grow together with the goal of recruiting successful candidates even in these trying times.
